OnePlus to Mac file transfer: what works on a OnePlus phone

·5 min read

For OnePlus to Mac file transfer, the dependable routes are a USB cable with a free Mac app called OpenMTP, or a free Wi-Fi app such as NearDrop or LocalSend. AirDrop through Quick Share works on some OnePlus phones, but Google's own list names only one model, the OnePlus 15. Texts work in a browser. Clipboard sharing and notifications on the Mac need an extra app.

Publisher note: The Relay publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Details about other products come from each maker's own pages, checked on 26 October 2026. Prices and features change, so confirm before you buy.

Can a OnePlus phone AirDrop to a Mac?

Some can. Google's Quick Share help page lists OnePlus among the makers with "certain" devices that support AirDrop in both directions. It does not say which. Google's compatible-device list is the page that names models, and as of 26 October 2026 the only OnePlus model on it is the OnePlus 15.

So if you have a OnePlus 15, you can try it. If you have any other OnePlus, Google's pages do not confirm support, and you should check the list again before giving up or relying on it. Devices that are not on the list can still send to a Mac with Quick Share's QR code: you scan a code with the Mac, open the link in the browser, and download. Google's page says those files stay on its servers for 24 hours and that both devices need internet access.

To try AirDrop on a OnePlus 15:

  1. On the Mac, open Control Center, click AirDrop, and choose Everyone.
  2. On the phone, open the file, tap Share, then Quick Share.
  3. Select the Mac and click Accept on it.

How do I connect a OnePlus phone to a Mac with a USB cable?

Google's USB help page describes stock Android with steps for Windows and Chromebook only. The phone-side steps are what you need. The Mac side needs an app, because macOS does not open an Android phone's storage by itself.

  1. Install OpenMTP. Its page lists macOS 10.14 Mojave or higher.
  2. Unlock the phone and connect a data cable.
  3. Swipe down and tap the USB notification. Google's wording is Charging this device via USB. Under Use USB for, choose File Transfer.
  4. If no notification appears, OpenMTP's connection guide says to open Settings, search for USB or USB Preferences, and select File transfer there.
  5. Drag files between the two sides in OpenMTP.

OnePlus may word the USB screen differently from Google's, and the wording can change between OxygenOS versions. Look for the option that mentions transferring files, and avoid anything labelled only for charging. The full walkthrough is Android to Mac file transfer via USB.

If OpenMTP shows nothing, see why a Mac does not recognise an Android phone. A cable that only charges is the most common cause.

How do I send files from a OnePlus phone to a Mac over Wi-Fi?

Two free apps handle this, and neither depends on OnePlus.

  • NearDrop is an unofficial Mac app that implements part of Google's Quick Share protocol. Its GitHub page says both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network. When the phone sends, a PIN appears and a notification shows on the Mac, and files save to Downloads. Sending from the Mac to Android works through a QR code that NearDrop shows. Setup is in how to use NearDrop.
  • LocalSend runs on both devices. Its GitHub page lists Android 7.0 or later and macOS 11 or later, and says it does not need an internet connection or third-party servers. Router settings such as AP isolation can block it.

For a OnePlus that is not on Google's list, either one is a quicker start than a cable.

What about texts, clipboard, and notifications?

Google Messages for web works with any Android phone that uses the Google Messages app. Google's page describes pairing with your Google Account, and says SMS goes through your phone, so carrier fees apply. If your OnePlus uses another messaging app by default, switch the default to Google Messages first. The full walkthrough is Android messages on a Mac.

For a shared clipboard or the phone's notifications on the Mac, nothing in Google's pages covers a Mac. That is where The Relay fits.

Where does The Relay fit for a OnePlus owner?

The Relay is for the things an iPhone does with a Mac that a OnePlus does not: a clipboard that works both ways, notifications on the Mac, incoming calls you can accept or decline, login codes from texts copied to the Mac's clipboard, and a window on the Mac that browses the phone's files. It needs Android 8.0 or later and macOS 13 Ventura or later. The Relay is one subscription through Google Play that covers your phone and your Mac, with a 7-day free trial.

It has no USB mode, so use OpenMTP for a wired copy. It cannot send texts from the Mac or mirror the phone's screen, and it works only on the same network or in Bluetooth range. For files alone, the free options above may be enough. If you are comparing, see The Relay or OpenMTP.
