Answering customer calls at your desk with an Android phone and a Mac
If you work in sales or support, the phone is the job, and your Mac is where the notes, the CRM, and the ticket live. An Android phone does not put its calls on a Mac by default, so the usual routine is a glance at the phone, a grab, and a lost place on the screen. You can improve that without a new phone. Free tools show who is calling and let you read and send texts from the Mac. The Relay shows incoming calls on the Mac with accept and decline. One thing nobody here does: place a call from the Mac.
Publisher note: The Relay publishes this guide and is one of the products discussed. Details about other products come from each maker's own pages, checked on 26 October 2026. Prices and features change, so confirm before you buy.
What does a call-heavy day need?
Three things, in order of how often they hurt:
- Knowing who is calling before you pick up, so the right record is open.
- Answering or declining without hunting for the phone.
- Replying to a text with the customer's notes in front of you.
The scenarios below are generic, not a customer story. Match them against your own day.
Who is calling, without picking up the phone?
Free route. KDE Connect is free software. Its wiki lists notifications for incoming calls, with a notification that shows which number is calling, and phone notification sync to the computer. It says a macOS desktop program is available through its download page. Treat the Mac side as a trial run for ten minutes before you depend on it at work.
With The Relay. An incoming call on the phone shows on the Mac, where you can accept or decline it. See calls on a Mac. Two limits matter for this job. It shows incoming calls only, so you cannot place a call from the Mac. The Relay's feature list does not mention carrying the call's audio through the Mac, so test one call before relying on it.
How do I reply to a text with notes in view?
Free route. Google Messages for web shows the same conversations as your phone in a browser and sends SMS from the computer. Pairing is from Messages on the phone, under Device Pairing, with the same Google Account on the browser, then you tap the matching emoji. Google says carrier fees apply, as they do in the app, because messages travel through the phone, and that you are unpaired if you do not use it for a few weeks. Only one computer is active at a time.
With The Relay. An SMS that arrives on the phone shows up on the Mac. The Relay does not send texts, so keep Google Messages for web open for replies. See reply to Android texts from a Mac.
How do I stop other buzzing from breaking focus?
Calls and customer texts are the signal. Everything else is noise. On a Mac the phone's notifications appear as Mac notifications with The Relay,. For the phone side, see silence Android notifications on a Mac.
What cannot be done from the Mac?
| Job | Free route | The Relay |
|---|---|---|
| See who is calling | KDE Connect incoming-call notification | Incoming call on the Mac |
| Answer or decline | On the phone | Accept or decline on the Mac |
| Place a call from the Mac | Not offered by either | No |
| Read and send texts | Google Messages for web | Incoming texts only |
| Call recording or logging | Not covered here | Not offered |
Check your employer's policy and local law before you record or log customer calls. Nothing in this guide is legal advice, and The Relay does not record calls.
Where does The Relay fit?
If you take a few calls a day, KDE Connect plus Google Messages for web may do. The Relay is for people who live on the phone and want calls, texts, and notifications showing in one Mac app, with the clipboard too, so a number copied from the phone pastes into the CRM. It needs both devices on the same Wi-Fi network or in Bluetooth range, so it will not help if you take calls away from your desk. It needs Android 8.0 or later and macOS 13 Ventura or later. The Relay is one subscription through Google Play that covers your phone and your Mac, with a 7-day free trial at /download.
