Pixel 10 AirDrop to Mac: what works, what to check, and what still needs a cable
Yes, a Pixel 10 can share files with a Mac over AirDrop, in both directions, using Quick Share. Google announced it on 20 November 2025 as two-way sharing "starting with the Pixel 10 Family". Nothing needs installing on either side. The Mac has to be set to receive from everyone, and the two devices have to be close together. Everything else between a Pixel 10 and a Mac, such as a cable transfer, a shared clipboard or notifications, takes other tools.

Which Pixel 10 phones are on Google's AirDrop list?
As of 26 October 2026, Google's compatible-device list names the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and Pixel 10a. Google's Quick Share help page says sending to Apple devices needs a "Pixel 8a or later", and receiving from them needs a "Pixel 9 and later, except Pixel 9a". A Pixel 10 clears both bars.
Google's list does not name a Pixel 11. If you have a newer Pixel than the ones above, open the list yourself and look for your model, because Google updates it.
How do I AirDrop from a Pixel 10 to a Mac?
Google's steps for sending to a Mac are short. They come from the help page above.
- On the Mac, open Control Center in the menu bar, click AirDrop, and choose Everyone. Google's wording for the iPhone version of this setting is "Everyone for 10 minutes".
- On the Pixel, open the photo or file and tap Share, then Quick Share.
- Pick the Mac from the list of nearby devices.
- Click Accept on the Mac when the AirDrop notification appears.
Google's security post says the connection is "direct and peer-to-peer", that data is never routed through a server, and that shared content is not logged. It also advises confirming the other device's name in person when you share with someone who is not a contact. With your own Mac, check that the name on the list is the one you expect.
How do I send a file from a Mac to a Pixel 10?
This is the direction people forget, and it is the one that makes the Pixel 10 more useful than an older Pixel.
- On the Pixel, set Quick Share visibility to Everyone for 10 minutes, or keep the Quick Share screen open in receive mode.
- On the Mac, select the file in Finder, click the Share button, choose AirDrop, and pick the Pixel. Apple's AirDrop guide covers the Mac side.
- Tap Accept on the Pixel.
Google's help page says received files go to the Files app, in Downloads, in a Quick Share folder. If the Mac does not show the Pixel, work through Quick Share and AirDrop not working.
What if AirDrop will not connect?
Go through the same short list every time, in this order.
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Mac AirDrop set to Everyone | Google's page says AirDrop works with its "Everyone for 10 minutes" mode, and the setting times out |
| Both devices close, screens on | Google's page suggests moving the devices within 1 foot (30 cm) of each other |
| Model on Google's list | A Pixel 10 is, but confirm the exact variant |
If none of those help, there is a fallback that does not depend on the AirDrop handshake. Google describes a QR code option in Quick Share. You scan it with the Mac, open the link in the browser, and save the files. Google's page says the files are end-to-end encrypted and stay on Google's servers for 24 hours, with limits of 10 GB every 24 hours and 1,000 files per session, and that both devices need internet access. It works, but it is an upload and a download, not a local copy.
Can I use a USB cable between a Pixel 10 and a Mac?
Yes, but a Mac cannot open the phone on its own. Google's USB transfer page gives steps for a Windows computer and a Chromebook and none for a Mac. OpenMTP, a free app, describes itself as an Android file transfer application for macOS, for macOS 10.14 Mojave or later, with drag and drop and support for files over 4 GB.
- Install OpenMTP on the Mac.
- Unlock the Pixel and connect it with a USB cable that carries data.
- Tap the Charging this device via USB notification on the Pixel.
- Under Use USB for, select File Transfer.
- Drag files between the two sides in OpenMTP.
Pick this route for a whole camera roll or a large folder. The full walkthrough is in Android to Mac file transfer via USB. Nothing in these steps is specific to the Pixel 10.
Can a Pixel 10 be a webcam for a Mac?
Google's Pixel Camera help page describes a wired webcam mode: connect a data cable, tap the USB notification, and under Use USB for choose Webcam. It says the webcam works on any device with USB Video Class (UVC) support, and it does not name macOS or any Pixel model. Treat it as something to test on your Mac, not a promise. More on that in Pixel as a webcam on a Mac.
What about texts, the clipboard and notifications?
Texts are the easy one. Google Messages for web shows your messages in a browser on the Mac and lets you send from it. Google's page describes pairing with your Google Account and matching an emoji on both screens. Carrier fees apply, since messages travel through your phone.
For the shared clipboard, the phone's notifications on the Mac, and incoming calls, nothing in Google's Pixel or AirDrop pages covers a Mac. This is the gap The Relay is built for. It syncs the clipboard in both directions, shows the phone's notifications as Mac notifications, shows incoming calls where you can accept or decline, and copies the login code from a text to the Mac's clipboard. It also gives you a window on the Mac that browses the phone's files. See clipboard sync and notifications on the Mac.
Where does The Relay fit with a Pixel 10?
If files are your only need, you probably do not need it. AirDrop through Quick Share is free and already on the phone. The Relay is for people who want the clipboard, notifications, texts and codes, and calls working together, over their own Wi-Fi network. It needs Android 8.0 or later and macOS 13 Ventura or later. The Relay is one subscription through Google Play that covers your phone and your Mac, with a 7-day free trial.
What it does not do: it has no USB mode, it does not send texts from the Mac, it does not mirror the phone's screen, and it works only when both devices share a network or are within Bluetooth range.
Questions people ask
Does the Pixel 10 support AirDrop?
Yes. Google announced AirDrop-compatible sharing in Quick Share on 20 November 2025, starting with the Pixel 10 family, and its current device list names the Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, and 10a.
Do I need an app on the Mac to AirDrop from a Pixel 10?
No. The Mac's built-in AirDrop is the receiver. You only change its setting to accept from everyone.
Why does my Mac not show up in Quick Share on the Pixel 10?
Most often the Mac's AirDrop has dropped back from Everyone, or the devices are too far apart. Set it to Everyone again, move the devices within 1 foot (30 cm), and try once more.
Can a Pixel 10 transfer files to a Mac by cable without an app?
No. The Mac needs an app that speaks the phone's file protocol, and OpenMTP is a free one. Google's USB steps cover Windows and Chromebook only.
